Old/Unfinished Business:
1) The Next VE test session is at the Thomasville library on Saturday March 17, 2018 @ 09:30.
2) Winter Field Day at the Thomasville Caboose. Saturday January 27, 2018.
Report of operations: Good turnout, casual operating. All who wanted mike time seemed to get it.
Dipoles went up for 80 and 40 meters. We operated SSB, and although FT8 was not a supported mode for field day, we a made a dozen or so contacts with it.
We served Pizza at 4p and operations stopped at 9:30p.
3) Dues were due in January. They are $25 per individual and $30 per family. The club accepts check or cash. Please make out checks to Ed Martin. Do not make out your checks payable to the club. The club has no bank account.
4) NC QSO Party. SUNDAY FEB 25, 10am – 8pm EST.
Three Cabins have been rented at HANGING ROCK STATE PARK for Saturday and Sunday nights. Setup will occur Saturday afternoon. We will breakdown the station on Monday morning. Our club provides food and drink. Please mark your calendar. This is our clubs premier event. We hope to continue our 7-year winning streak! For the past few years we have set up two stations. This time we will be setting up three stations. One station for each of 40m, 20m, and 80/15.
We need operators. No past HF operating experience or contest experience is required. Regardless of your license class – Novice, Tech, General, Advanced, Extra, it doesn’t matter – you can participate!
If you stay overnight, one or two nights, the cost per participant is $60. Day trippers will be asked to make a donation to help the club offset the cost of food and shelter.
A specific head count will be necessary to purchase food carefully and adequately.
5) Discussion regarding operation of a special event station for the re-enactment of General Hardee’s Retreat to operate from the Albertson House located on Meadowbrook Rd off Hwy 62 on Saturday, April 21. Will investigate further.
6) Discussion of meeting location: Suggestion was made that we submit the meeting location question to vote of the membership. Josh reported that the first intention of the board was to just arrange for the club to experience several options and not to make a final decision on behalf of the club. Information regarding the next meeting location will be posted to the website as soon as possible.
