Tri-County Amateur Radio Club
Minutes of Meeting: 16 Oct. 2021

A regular monthly meeting of the Tri-County Amateur Radio Club was held on Saturday, 16 October 2021 at 8:30 am EDT at the public park shelter across from 201 Stadium Drive in Thomasville, with the president, W4DAE-David, being in the chair.  The meeting was called to order at 8:32 am.

Members Attending:  W4CHI, Ron; W4DAE, David; KR3HAB, Albert; N3NCN, Mark; KK4RR, Richard; and KG4TAH, Tony.

Guests: KA4JAH, Keith Thomas (VE); Curtis Wood, Daniel Winkler, and Hiram Simms (for testing).

Adoption of Agenda

A draft agenda, which had been distributed prior to commencement of the meeting, was adopted by unanimous consent.

Approval of Minutes from Previous Meeting

By unanimous consent, reading of the minutes of the September 2021 meeting was waived and they were adopted.

Reports of Officers and Committees

Report of the Secretary. -- As of the day of the meeting, we had 48 members, all in good standing.  Two members have been added to the roster since the previous meeting: Christopher A. and Christopher R. Myrick, both of Thomasville.

Report of the Treasurer. --  The October report required by section 6.4 was submitted to the president and entered into the record.  For the 2021 dues year, month ending September 30, 2021, we still had $213.44 set aside as operating funds, out of our initial budget of $390.  We had a total of $1,106.37 in "cash on hand," which includes the balances of our checking, savings, and PayPal accounts, plus any currency, coins, and checks awaiting deposit. By subtracting our operating fund reserves from cash on hand, we see that we had $892.93 in uncommitted resources as of 09/30/21. Through our ninth month of the 2021 dues year, we had received $1,097.10 in dues and donations and had spent $1,248.71, resulting in year-to-date net loss of $151.61.

Report of the President. --  W4DAE, David, reported the following:

We're waiting to hear from KF4OVA whether the donated Sinclair duplexers are now being used on the club's 145.290 MHz repeater and whether it makes sense to try to use a 25W amplifier (already on hand).

Open Motions from Previous Meeting

There were no open motions from the previous meeting.

New Business

Last month, W4DAE reminded members that he must soon appoint a nominating committee to ensure that there is at least one nominee for each officer position prior to the November deadline for elections. W4DAE is already in his second term as president and therefore cannot stand for re-election under the current bylaws, which impose a two-term limit on the president and vice president.  Volunteers were therefore sought for the nominating committee. No one has volunteered so far.  W4DAE will appoint a committee via e-mail before the November meeting.

A proposal from W8LWX was submitted, for consideration at the November meeting, to eliminate the two-term limit for president and vice president in section 5.8.

W4CHI moved to authorize the treasurer to purchase liability insurance for the club, at an estimated annual cost of $200 through ARRL, an idea that was first discussed over a year ago but was put on hold due to the Covid-19 pandemic. W4DAE indicated that such insurance may allow us to reserve meeting space (which can also be used for license testing) for free at Davidson-Davie Community College.  The motion was adopted by unanimous consent.

Announcements

None.

Adjournment

There being no further business on the agreed agenda, the meeting was adjourned without objection at 8:51 am.

Program

Following adjournment, KA4JAH set up an HF radio on a 16 amp-hour battery with a Buddy Pole antenna (made by W3FF) that covers 20/40 meters.  The antenna was on an 18-foot pole with tripod and three guy wires. The kit was contained in a bag measuring about four feet.  Keith was able to tune into, listen, and check into a net as a demonstration to our guest who were present for testing.

Respectfully submitted,
/s/ W8LWX-John
Secretary
