Tri-County Amateur Radio Club Minutes of Meeting: 20 August 2022
A regular monthly meeting of the Tri-County Amateur Radio Club was held on Saturday, 20 August 2022 at 8:30 am EDT outdoors near the Finch Building at Davidson-Davie Community College, 297 DCC Road, Thomasville. The impromptu outdoors venue was chosen when participants discovered that the Finch Building itself, in which the meeting was scheduled to be held, was unexpectedly locked.
Five days prior to this meeting, a special notice was e-mailed to members via the Groups.io membership mailing list and posted on NC4AR.org under section 4.4 of the Bylaws, stating that members would be able to participate remotely in this meeting via Zoom and telephone. However, it was not possible to provide these remote access methods due to the unexpected absence of the president, W4DAE, from the meeting, who was to have set them up.
In the absence of the president and vice president, and in accordance with the rules of order, the meeting was called to order at 8:43 am by W8LWX as secretary, for the limited purpose of seeking a volunteer to preside. In the absence of other volunteers, W8LWX volunteered to serve as chairman pro tem. Without objection, he was permitted to do so and chaired the rest of the meeting.
Members Attending: KR3HAB, Albert; W8LWX, John; KK4NWR, Amy; KF4QDS, John; N8UAX, Mark; NL7UP, MeLinda; KJ4UYR, Janice; and KO4WXR, Fred.
Guests: Robert Jamison (for testing).
Adoption of Agenda
A draft agenda had been distributed prior to commencement of the meeting. W8LWX proposed to amend it by removing its reference to a previous motion that had been tabled indefinitely at the previous meeting, The draft agenda, with that revision, was then adopted by unanimous consent.
Approval of Minutes from Previous Meeting
By unanimous consent, reading of the minutes of the July 2022 meeting was waived and they were adopted.
Reports of Officers and Committees
Report of the Secretary. -- As of the end of July, the club had 40 members. We are pleased to welcome one new member since the last meeting: K4DSX, Rod Briles, of Thomasville. Rod is an Amateur Extra licensee with a background in broadcasting and an interest in preservation of family history. Members are encouraged to check out his page on QRZ.com.
Report of the Treasurer. -- There were no transactions during July 2022, so the report stated at the last meeting continued to apply as of July 31, 2022, with one exception: the actual amount of "uncommitted resources" should have been reported last month as $752.21 but was erroneously stated as $754.21. This was likely not an error by the secretary in recording the minutes, but rather, an error by the treasurer in stating the amount. The treasurer vowed to try to do better in the future.
Open Motions from Previous Meeting
There were no open motions from the previous meeting.
New Business
There were no new motions.
Program and Announcements
Albert, KR3HAB, announced that he regrettably will not be able to transmit during his upcoming trip to India because, as it turns out, he would need an address in India in order to qualify for operating privileges there. He hopes to overcome this hurdle in subsequent trips.
Lexington hamfest: The inaugural edition of the Lexington hamfest will be held on September 24, 2022 (the 4th Saturday in September) at the Lexington Farmers' Market, 366 Livestock Market Road in Lexington, from 8 am to 12 noon. Admission is $5. Tables are $10. Our club will be there, with a table full of equipment to be sold at very favorable prices.
All members are encouraged to come to this hamfest on September 24! Take advantage of the bargains. If you have equipment to sell, whether for your own benefit or for the club's, bring it to the NC4AR table and see whether it finds a new home.
Reminder: The club mailing list on Groups.io is available for each and every member to use whenever he or she wishes to send out a radio-related announcement or information to all other club members. It's easy to do: just address the e-mail to members@nc4ar.groups.io and it will be automatically forwarded to all subscribed members. Just make sure the communication relates to ham radio (i.e., no politics, chain letters, advertising, religious proselytizing, etc.).
