Tri-County Amateur Radio Club Minutes of Meeting: 19 August 2023
A regular monthly meeting of the Tri-County Amateur Radio Club was held on Saturday, 19 August 2023 at 11:30 am EDT at Tres Amigos restaurant, 108 Randolph Street, Thomasville, NC, with the president, NL7UP-MeLinda, being in the chair. The meeting was called to order at 11:30 am.
Guests: KQ4IRB, Chris; KA4JAH, Keith; Joy Weeman; Karl Weeman; and Mary Weeman.
Adoption of Agenda
A draft agenda had been distributed prior to commencement of the meeting. Members were invited to propose changes or additions if desired. Certain changes were proposed and adopted. As modified, the draft agenda was then adopted by unanimous consent.
Approval of Minutes from Previous Meeting
Without objection, reading of the draft minutes of the July 2023 meeting was waived and they were adopted.
Reports of Officers and Committees
Report of the Secretary. -- There has been one change to the roster since the previous meeting: a new member, N4GST (Larry in Asheboro) has joined. With this addition, we now have 39 members.
Members are reminded that the president must appoint a three-member nominating committee before the November meeting. As a practical matter, this means there are only two more meetings at which to do this, so it's not too early to start thinking about it. Anyone willing to serve on the nominating committee, or as an officer for next year, should contact any current club officer to volunteer (NL7UP, W4DAE, or W8LWX).
Report of the Treasurer. -- For the month ending 31 July 2023, we still had $560.33 left over from our initial operating budget of $850. We had a total of $1,485.61 in "cash on hand," which includes the balances of our checking, savings, and PayPal accounts, plus any currency, coins, and checks awaiting deposit. After setting aside the funds dedicated to the operating budget, this means that, as of the end of the month, we had a net total of $925.28 in uncommitted resources available for other uses. For the 2023 membership year, we have received $585.14 in dues, donations, and interest, and have spent $304.00, resulting in net income of $281.14 as of month's end.
Report of the President. -- The president reiterated that the 445.975 MHz simplex link to the club repeater, which has been attempted under the president's personal call sign since January 2023 as a way for low-power stations in the Thomasville area to hit the club's 145.290 MHz repeater, remains non-functional and will stay that way until further notice.
Open Motions from Previous Meeting
There were no open motions from the previous meeting.
New Business
NL7UP suggested that our club participate in Thomasville's "Everybody's Day" in September 2024. K4DSX reported that the deadline for applying to participate would be in June 2024. W8LWX moved to table further consideration of club participation in Everybody's Day until the club's January 2024 meeting. The motion to table was adopted.
Program and Announcements
Our guest KA4JAH-Keith announced that the Forsyth Amateur Radio Club (FARC) seeks volunteers to support communications for this year's Tour to Tanglewood bicycle tour on September 23 and 24. Further details may be found on FARC's website, W4NC.com.
KA4JAH further announced that the Greensboro Amateur Radio Association will be doing a North Carolina POTA (Parks On The Air) activation during the second weekend of September. A group will go to Mayo River Park in Mayodan, NC. Some will camp out for several days. They said people from other clubs will be welcome to join them.
K4KKT-Joe announced that International Lighthouse and Light Ship Weekend was going on, using 325 stations in about 40 different countries. He suggested www.dxsummit.fi for spotting HF stations.
After adjournment, KA4JAH presented a program on the use of EZNEC antenna-modeling software.
